Teacher Interactions

I found out through my teaching that my student to teacher interaction is my best suit. That’s not to say that my interaction with mentors or parents is bad, I simply interact with students more so I’m more used to it.

One of my goals for this semester is better interaction with parents and mentors. I’m going to try to send more periodic updates and to let more mentors and parents know when their student is behind. I think last semester that my thought was that it’s mostly the mentor’s job and parents job to keep students on track. After this last semester, I realized that it is much easier for me to see when a student is behind than it is for a mentor or parent or even the student sometimes.

My thoughts on this matter are not entirely selfless though. I’m sure that the more that I keep up on students in the more that I keep them on track during the semester that it will ease the number of students submitting a whole bunch of assignments at the last minute. Overall, I feel like being more involved in the students lives in contacting the mentors more will be better for students and myself in the long run.

Expectations

One of the things that I learned during the fall semester is that expectations are really important to communicate with students. I noticed that there were many students were not aware that you needed to comment on to other students discussion posts. My plan this semester is to post several things throughout the lessons not just at the beginning or an announcement that make students aware of the things that I expect of them and assignments.

I’m going to try several different things. For a few of the assignments, I plan on posting videos of me discussing the things that I expect from them. For others, that it’s just a few quick notes, I plan on just posting a picture of the things that I would like them to know.

I’m interested to see how this plays out the semester. I’m hoping that posting things throughout the lesson rather than just in one place will make more students see my posts and more likely to know my expectations.
